THOMAS MALORY:
§ Le Marte D` Arthur is the prose version of the story of King Arthur and his round table under one title and eight Romances.
§ The work was written with both historical facts and imaginative features (the supernatural and fantastic aspects as in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by The Peal poet).
§ This work was completed in 1470 and was published in 1485, the year when the war of Roses came to an end.
§ There is sadness rather than heroism in Arthur’s final battle.
§ In a way it is a climax of a tradition of writing, bringing together myth and history.
